About us

Rooted in Gosaba, guiding in the Sundarbans

We are a family-run travel company from the last inhabited island before the forest begins. Everything we sell, we run ourselves.

Our story

From a single country boat to a full-service operator

Royal Bengal Mangrove Travels began in 2011 with one wooden boat, a hand-drawn map of the creeks and a promise to show visitors the Sundarbans the way islanders experience it — slowly, quietly and with respect for the forest.

Today we operate a fleet of licensed launches from Gosaba, work with a team of forest-approved guides and naturalists, and host guests in stays ranging from village eco huts to premium river-facing cottages. Our kitchens are run by local cooks, our crew are neighbours, and a share of every booking goes back into the villages we travel through.

We handle the parts travellers find difficult: forest department permits, entry formalities, guide allocation, tide-aware routing and safe transfers from Kolkata or Godkhali. What is left for you is the river.

How we work

Responsible tourism is not a slogan here

We live on these islands. Careless tourism costs us more than it costs any visitor.

Safety first, always

Certified launches, life jackets for every guest including children, first-aid kits on board and crew trained in river rescue.

Community-owned

Guides, cooks, boat crew and homestay hosts are all from Gosaba and nearby islands. Fair wages, no middlemen.

Low-impact travel

No plastic bottles on our boats, no forest feeding, no loud music inside core creeks and strict adherence to forest rules.
